MGC ZOO COMMITTEE IN SEARCH OF TROPICAL PLANTS FOR TROPICAL GARDEN IN
ZOO GREENHOUSE
Do you have a tropical house plant that is overgrown and no longer fits in your house? (I have a parlor palm that is taking over my living room!) Please think of donating your overgrown treasure to the MGC Zoo Committee. After creating the Children’s Garden last year, we have been asked by Joe Clausen, new Zoo Director, to help turn the nearby greenhouse, built last year also, into a Tropical Habitat for tours by school children. The new Tropical Habitat will illustrate how plants are one of the necessary elements for animals, in this case lizards, to live successfully. If you have one of those overgrown favorites, committee members will work with you to arrange a convenient time when we can pick up your plant donation. Below is a list of plants needed to help create this unique display:
Agave Avocado Tree Bird of Paradise Plant (strelitzia) Black Bamboo Bougainvillea Bromeliad, any type Citrus tree Croton (codiseum) Dracena Eschaveria Hawaiian Tree Fern (cilistium) Hibiscus, Chinese Kalanchoe Monstera Orchids Passion Flower Philodendron, any type Pineapple Plant Sheffelera Shrimp Plant Staghorn Fern Zebra Plant
To donate a plant and arrange a time when it can be picked up, or if you have questions, please phone: Sharon Jones, 343-1260 LaVerne Bodron, 387-6298
NOTE:
If you have an announcement which you believe to be of interest to area gardeners, please submit the information by e-mail to mgcwebmaster@yahoo.com for possible posting on this page. The MGC reserves the right to decline any submissions not considered appropriate for this space.
